Leaders of the INDIA bloc are set to meet on Tuesday at 10 AM in the Parliament Library Building, in the office of the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, to strategise over the ongoing controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Following the meeting, Members of Parliament from the alliance will stage a protest at 10:30 AM near the Makar Dwar entrance of Parliament. The protest will be held under the slogan “Our Vote, Our Right, Our Fight,” opposing what they claim are irregularities in the revision process.
Simultaneously, a key meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary Party is also scheduled at the Parliament Library Building. Members from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are expected to attend.
The developments come amid a continuing deadlock in Parliament, with the opposition demanding a discussion on the SIR exercise in poll-bound Bihar and the government refusing to entertain the request. The standoff has disrupted proceedings in both houses for the third consecutive week.
Due to ongoing protests, the Lok Sabha could not take up two important bills on Monday—the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the disruptions and said that time had been allocated through the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) to discuss the bills.
“I urge members not to waste the House’s time. These are significant bills that deserve attention,” Rijiju said, adding that the government is ready to discuss any issue under the rules, but the SIR cannot be debated as it is a constitutional process undertaken by the Election Commission of India.
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya echoed the concern, stressing the importance of the bills and urging cooperation from opposition members.
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who was presiding over the House, also appealed to members to allow discussions to proceed, noting that no bills have been passed so far in the ongoing monsoon session.
As Parliament continues to witness repeated adjournments, the confrontation over the electoral roll revision in Bihar remains a key flashpoint between the ruling and opposition alliances.
